The IOSH Working Safely course is suitable for any employee or self-employed person, working in any industry, who wishes to build their understanding of basic health and safety. It is the perfect introduction to understanding UK Health and Safety requirements.

The course is designed to make all employees aware of their employer’s duties and their own responsibilities in relation to health and safety law. Completion of this course will meet the requirements set within the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 in regard to employers providing suitable and sufficient training and health and safety compliance.

The course includes four modules, covering the following topics:

  • Introduction to Working Safely (outline of occupational health and safety)
  • Hazard and risk definitions.
  • Identification of common hazards.
  • Improving safety performance.

At the end of the course, delegates will have an understanding of:

  • Health and safety law and regulations.
  • Identifying hazards and evaluating risks in the workplace.
  • Implementing the appropriate workplace precautions for a specific risk.
  • Assisting managers in preparing written risk assessments.
  • The importance of following health and safety policy.
  • How to work safely in their workplace.
  • How to report incidents and accidents.

At the end of the course, delegates will need to complete a multiple-choice exam as well as three paper-based hazard identification practical assessments.

On successful completion, delegates will receive an electronic IOSH Working Safely certificate.

During this IOSH course, candidates will learn to assess and control hazards and understand their own responsibilities with regards to health and safety. At the end of the course, supervisors and managers will be able to understand how human behaviour can affect health and safety in the workplace, how to apply health and safety best practice in their work environment and how to communicate with their workforce about health and safety awareness issues.

The IOSH Managing Safely course has a practical programme, with step-by-step guidance, facts and case studies to aid learning. It includes seven modules, which cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to Managing Safely.
  • Understanding your responsibilities
  • Understanding and identifying hazards.
  • Risk Assessments.
  • Controlling risks.
  • Investigating incidents.
  • Measuring performance.

As part of these modules, you will gain practical knowledge of:

  • Health and safely law.
  • The principles of management.

After attending the IOSH Managing Safely course, delegates will need to take the IOSH Refresher course before their certificate expires to ensure their health & safety knowledge stays up-to-date.

Trainees should undertake the one-day refresher before their five-year IOSH Managing Safely certificate expires.

The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher course has a practical programme, with step-by-step guidance in addition to facts and case studies to aid learning. Delegates will learn about:

  • Health and safety law and regulations.
  • Principles of good management and leadership.
  • The Plan-Do-Check-Act model.
  • Identifying, assessing and controlling common workplace hazards.
  • Understanding why accidents occur in the workplace.
  • How human behaviour can affect health & safety.
