Level 2 Mental Health First Aid Course
The Level 2 Award in Mental Health First Aid Awareness is a nationally recognised qualification suitable for employees, supervisors, managers, team leaders and anyone who wants to improve their understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
Our course is delivered in an engaging and practical way, using workplace discussions, scenarios, activities and real life examples.
What will I learn?
During the course, learners develop an understanding of mental health and wellbeing, the mental health continuum and how the actions of others can affect an individual’s mental health.
Learners will explore common mental health conditions and concerns including depression, anxiety, stress, substance misuse, addiction, PTSD, self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, personality disorders and psychotic disorders, together with associated signs, symptoms and risk factors.
The course also looks at the role of a Mental Health First Aider, including how to:
- recognise changes and potential signs that someone may be struggling
- approach and start a supportive conversation
- listen without judgement
- understand professional boundaries
- provide reassurance and initial support
- signpost people towards appropriate professional help
- understand urgent and emergency support routes
- identify ways of reducing the risk of mental health problems in the workplace
- promote a more supportive workplace culture
The qualification specifically includes the skills of the mental health first aider, treatments and interventions, supporting individuals, reliable sources of support and strategies for reducing mental health risks.
Why choose Prime?
Rather than simply sitting through a presentation, learners are encouraged to get involved in discussions, workplace scenarios and practical activities. The course focuses on recognising changes, having supportive conversations, listening effectively and knowing where to signpost someone for further help.
For construction organisations, the training can include relevant examples around workload, deadlines, working away from home, lone working, shift patterns, workplace pressures and support on site.
